Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative

We are a committed participant in the Behavioral Health Initiative for Older Adults and People with Physical Disabilities (Behavioral Health Initiative), spearheaded by the Oregon Health Authority.

This initiative aims to enhance the behavioral health system for older adults and individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive timely, coordinated, and culturally responsive care.

Our Approach

In Oregon, 15.4% of the population is aged 65 or older, a figure projected to increase to 20% by 2030. This demographic trend highlights an urgent need for specialized behavioral health care, especially as at least one in five Americans over 65 experience mental health or substance use conditions.

At Adapt, we actively contribute to the Behavioral Health Initiative, aiming to prepare our healthcare system for these growing challenges. We collaborate with community partners to fill service gaps and create a comprehensive care network, offer consultations for complex cases, and provide essential training on topics from Alzheimer’s disease to suicide prevention.

Through these efforts, we’re building a foundation for a healthier future for Oregon’s aging population and those with disabilities, ensuring access to informed, empathetic care.

Our Services

At the heart of our Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative, our Behavioral Health Specialist is pivotal in fulfilling our mission through a variety of focused services:

  • Improving Access and Coordination: We strive to enhance access to qualified behavioral health providers, ensuring integrated care that meets the specific needs of older adults and those with physical disabilities. Our goal is to broaden the availability of essential services, benefits, and support throughout the community.
  • Enhancing Provider Knowledge and Skills: Elevating the expertise of professionals who serve this demographic is a key priority. We provide training and resources aimed at deepening the understanding of the behavioral health challenges unique to older adults and individuals with disabilities, promoting effective and compassionate care.
  • Raising Awareness and Education: Educating the community on recognizing the signs and symptoms of behavioral health issues, and how to address them, is fundamental to our approach. Through targeted awareness campaigns and the distribution of informational materials, we work to clarify misconceptions about behavioral health, encouraging proactive engagement with health services.
