Kim earned her undergraduate degree at Cal-State University, Fullerton, and worked several years providing residential counseling services in Southern California and San Francisco. Kim opted to work in the private sector for fifteen years but eventually returned to helping people in the field of counseling. The desire to assist others in the field of counseling prompted her decision to enroll at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), MSW program. Kim graduated with her MSW from UNR in 1998 and worked across various fields and areas of social work. This included in-patient, out-patient and residential treatment, school-based therapy and administrative positions with the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Worker. After residing in Reno, Nevada for close to thirty years, Kim and her husband opted to move to Winston for a change of lifestyle and to be closer to family. Kim is married and has one adult son.
